Variable Resistor

Variable resistors are a type of resistor whose resistance value can be artificially adjusted to meet the needs of the circuit. According to resistance value, adjustment range, adjustment form, manufacturing process, manufacturing material, volume and other factors, variable resistors can be divided into many different models and types, including: electronic component variable resistors, ceramic disc variable resistors, chip variable resistors, wire-wound variable resistors, etc.
Common variable resistors mainly change the resistance value by changing the length of the resistor connected to the circuit. They can gradually change the current in the electrical appliance connected in series with them, also can gradually change the voltage of the electrical appliance connected in series with them, and can also play a role in protecting the electrical appliance. In experiments, it also plays a role in obtaining multiple sets of values.

Due to their structure and usage, variable resistors have a significantly higher failure rate than ordinary resistors. Variable resistors are usually used in small-signal circuits, and large-signal variable resistors are also used in a few occasions such as vacuum tube amplifiers.
